Since 2018 Waimate2gether has supported local projects to help our community thrive, funded by the Department of Internal Affairs and its Community-Led Development Programme (CLDP).

We consulted with our community for ideas and brought them to life including revitalising the White Horse and Centrewood Park. We brought disc golf to Waimate, we coordinated the district’s first Winter Festival, and now we are focused on the Waimate Trail.

The Waimate Trail - Te Waimatemate Ara will be a shared-use trail for walkers, runners and cyclists. Our goal is to develop a 67km loop trail that links existing track networks between Studholme, Kelcey’s and Gunn’s Bush via Mt Studholme at the top of the Hunters Hills and through the old Waimate Branch Railway to Waihao Forks. It will be a world-class visitor experience that celebrates the significant culture and heritage of the area, and take in some of the most varied and spectacular scenery in South Canterbury.
